Mitsubishi was creating more than 1 million coupes per annum by the end of the decade and its lineup had grown to comprise automobiles like the Galant and the Lancer. Mitsubishi began selling coupes in the U.S. under its own name in 1982. In the '90s, Mitsubishi hit its stride thanks to the fame of the sport-based Eclipse and 3000GT in the U.S. and the turbocharged Lancer Evolution in other parts of the globe. The Eclipse was a major automobile produced by the Diamond Star Motors partnership. Rebadged models of the Eclipse were sold in Plymouth and Eagle dealerships too. The brand has done much to remain stable in the market by streamlining its automobile roster and improving quality.
