About MitsubishiMitsubishi
Mitsubishi produces commercial automobiles for its home market of Japan. Its present collection of vehicles includes cars, trucks and SUVs that tend to present above-average performance and style.
In the early 1870s Mitsubishi was established by Yataro Iwasaki, a descendant of samurais. The company's first focus was on shipping, but it rapidly expanded into areas such as mining and ship repair. Mitsubishi revealed the Model A, Japan's first series production passenger car in 1917. In the years that led up to World War II, the division accountable for transportation, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, was paying attention mostly on producing ships and automobiles for the war effort.
In 1960, company started producing passenger vehicles on a large scale with the introduction of the compact Mitsubishi 500. Mitsubishi light passenger vehicles like the 360 Van and 360 Pickup were also launched in that decade. Mitsubishi's vehicle production arm was officially spun off in 1970 into a company of its own with the foundation of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. Mitsubishi was creating more than 1 million coupes per annum by the end of the decade and its lineup had grown to comprise automobiles like the Galant and the Lancer. Mitsubishi began selling coupes in the U.S. under its own name in 1982.
In the '90s, Mitsubishi hit its stride thanks to the fame of the sport-based Eclipse and 3000GT in the U.S. and the turbocharged Lancer Evolution in other parts of the globe. The Eclipse was a major automobile produced by the Diamond Star Motors partnership. Rebadged models of the Eclipse were sold in Plymouth and Eagle dealerships too.
The brand has done much to remain stable in the market by streamlining its automobile roster and improving quality.
