Honda
Honda automobiles are highly regarded by American drivers because of their outstanding reputation for dependability and quality. But the overall driving and owning experience counts as well. Founded in 1948 by Soichiro Honda, Japan-based Honda Motor Company got its start manufacturing motorbikes. After World War II, Japan had been rendered cash poor and petrol-starved and its citizens were throbbing for a cheap, fuel-efficient form of transportation. Honda's created its first motorbike that was inexpensive to make and cheap to operate.
The manufacturer's 1949 D-Type offered a steel frame as well as front and rear suspension and could accomplish speeds of up to 50 mph. The 1950s saw the introduction of the victorious Juno scooter that became popular in Japan at that time. After that, Honda launched the ultra-successful C100 Super Cub. The bike was extraordinarily easy to drive and featured a crossbar-free frame that made it admired by women; it became the first Honda motorbike that was sold in the U.S. as part of the establishment of the American Honda Co. in 1959.
The Honda had manufactured its first vehicles for the Japanese home market and entered Formula One racing by the early 1960s. And in 1970, it imported its first coupé, the diminutive N600, to the U.S. The automaker at first had a hard time igniting interest in American buyers, but that all changed in the year 1973 with the launch of the Civic. The coupé offered larger dimensions than Honda's earlier models. The Civic's fuel efficiency and affordability made it Honda's first American accomplishment story. By the year 1976, the Civic had been joined by the Accord, which rapidly became a darling with U.S. consumers too.
Honda's achievement and its status as a maker of trustworthy cars and motorcycles continued to grow by the 1980s. In 1982, it began constructing Accords in the U.S. and by the year 1989 had received the distinction of manufacturing America's most popular coupé.
At present, Honda's lineup includes fuel-sipping hybrids, rugged SUVs, reliable family sedans, spacious minivans, and even a pickup.
