Isuzu
Isuzu, that means "50 bells," is a river’s name which flows through a province dotted with historic Shinto shrines in Japan. The company's was formed in 1916, when Tokyo Ishikawajima Shipbuilding and Engineering Company first thought to widen its business to take in auto manufacturing. In 1918, Isuzu forged a technical union with the U.K.-oriented Wolseley Motor Company. Its introduction licensed offering, the A9 car, shortly followed, as did its primary truck, the CP. The company's name had been changed to the more laconic Isuzu by 1949.
Creation of Isuzu trucks was at its peak in the postwar years. The company's automobiles played a vital role in Japan's reconstruction effort, and were used to ferry food, clothes and other basics. Isuzu rolled out the Hillman Minx passenger coupe, the product of a technical union with Rootes, a U.K. outfit in 1953.
The ‘60s observed the launch of passenger coupes like the Bellett, the Florian and the 117 car, plus trucks like the WASP as well. Isuzu formed a partnership with General Motors in 1971. The Gemini was released some years later, and was the original Isuzu automobile to be created from the pairing.
Isuzu, by the 1980s, had landed on the American shores. The earliest Isuzu sold in the American market was the Pup. The Trooper was an SUV obtainable in two- or four-door form, and was launched in 1983 and rapidly became trendy in that new market segment. The company, in 1987 formed a joint venture with Subaru, a union that produced the Isuzu Rodeo and the Isuzu Pickup. The coupes were less popular than the trucks, for example, the dated I-Mark sedan and the handsome, Italian-designed Impulse sport car.
In the 1990s, The Company’s sales were comparatively strong. However, the new millennium carried bad news. Earlier best-sellers like the Rodeo and the Trooper were surpassed by fresher, newer competition, and sales dropped. In the year 2008, the company announced that it would stop its U.S. operations in the start of 2009.
