When talking about Volvo, one can’t help saying that the brand is all about style and performance. Volvo which has been into safety research for a long time continues improving its offerings as much as possible.
Volvo has this unique Swedish meaning “I roll”. It was back in 1927 when the first automobile "Jakob" entered the automobile market or one can say that this was the very beginning of the brand’s “rocking and rolling” journey. With the passage of time and increase in the brand’s popularity (1950’s), Volvo started exporting cars to the U.S including the PV444. And it took very little time for the brand to make a name here as well. Of course, vehicles with that solid size and elegant touch couldn’t be ignored. Moreover, being the first manufacturer to design vehicles with a three-point safety belt gave the brand a special reputation in the automobile market.
In 1960’s Volvo launched its sports car, the P1800.
Soon, Volvo turned into a celebrity car when it was featured in the all-time favorite TV series The Saint, with Roger Moore driving the classy vehicle.
During 1970’s, Volvo further improvised its offerings by the addition of special features including childproof locks, collapsible steering columns and rear-facing child seats which were extremely rare in those days.
Following the trend of BMWs and Saabs, these elegant Volvos soon earned the status of an American "yuppie" favorite. The company kept on promoting its latest models with influential innovations such as the Italian-designed 780 coupe and the front-wheel-drive 480 hatchback.
Early 90’s brought a new era of attractive Volvo models with 850 being the first one to enter the market. This holds the status of being Volvo's first front-wheel-drive executive car. This precisely crafted vehicle was followed by the S40 and C70. Later, the company joined the Ford family when it was acquired by the automaker.
Today, Volvo offers a variety of well-designed and eye-catching sedans, coupes and SUVs. And driving these cars is not just fun but it is something which is equally exciting and safe.
