Born in Japan, Nissan is recognized for crafting automobiles that emphasizes on edgy styling and superb performance. Nissan’s lineup of automobiles is wide, and comprises sporty cars, family sedans, trucks, minivans and SUVs.
In 1933, the company started as the Jidosha Seico Co., Ltd. A year later, this outfit combined with another Japanese company, and the new manufacturer was named Nissan Motor Company, Ltd. Nissan primarily marketed its automobiles under the brand Datsun, with the first Datsuns being constructed in the year 1934. The brand Postwar, made its existence felt all over the world, creating a partnership with Austin Motor Co., a U.K.-based company and building a presence in America. The first Datsuns hit the shores in the United States in 1958. Automobiles like the Datsun 1000 were founded on Austin platforms.
In the 1960’s Nissan merged with Prince Motor Company, a union which assisted the Asian automaker in creating more luxury-based vehicles. It started offering its first automobile styled for the American market; the Datsun 510 sedan in the U.S. Datsun had exported over 1 million vehicles by the end of the decade. In the 1970s, Datsun became popular because of its 240Z sports car which was powered by an inline six-cylinder engine, and was desirable for its blend of style, performance and affordability.
Nissan began selling automobiles globally under the Nissan name in 1981. The '80s also witnessed Nissan's introduction of a tuning division called Nismo for the development of performance-based automobiles and accessories. Nissan also constructed a Tennessee-oriented plant and brought its production to American shores.
Thanks to fun-to-drive vehicles like the 300ZX, Maxima and Sentra in the early '90s due to which Nissan's fortunes rose in the U.S.
